Korean-English Translation Services

Through WordSwords, I offer Korean-to-English (KE) translation, with a focus on accurate meaning and clear, appropriate language for the intended readers. I consider the purpose, audience, subject area and context of each document, including research where needed.

My Translation Process

The process usually involves two drafts and discussion with the client or the original writer:

1. First draft - accuracy: I translate the original Korean text into English, focusing on accurately conveying the intended meaning. You can review the draft and clarify any meanings or intentions.
2. Second draft - readability: I use your feedback and return to the original text to refine the translation, focusing on clarity and suitability for English readers.

For some projects, particularly English-to-Korean (EK) translation, an external language checker may be needed to confirm accuracy. This can involve extra time and fees, which would be discussed with you.

Turnaround Times

Standard translation turnaround is generally 3-5 days (72-120 hours), depending on the document and whether additional checking is required.

• Rush work: Korean-to-English translations requested within 48 hours may attract a 25% rush fee, subject to availability.
• Urgent work: Turnaround of 12-48 hours may be negotiated with a 50% rush fee, where the client accepts a rough translation rather than a fully refined version.

Urgent turnaround options are available only for Korean-to-English translation and must be agreed before work begins.

Translation Rates

Translation fees are based on the word count of the original source document, not the completed translation. The following rates are indicative and are based on Kathleen's supplied 2022 rate schedule. Please contact me to confirm current fees before booking.
